I am a parent of a special needs child (10yr old) and would like to start a bible study for parents (moms) of special needs children but I am having a hard time finding one. Does anyone know of a good study out there that targets this?
Thanks
Several people have asked me about this lately, but I'm not aware of a study specifically for parents of special needs children. If you're wanting a general Bible study, you can try a Beth Moore study. If you're wanting something that deals specifically with the spiritual and theological concerns you have about parenting a special needs child, I'd suggest talking with one of your pastors. As you deal with those tough questions, your pastor may want to facilitate the group.
I am a pastor's wife and a speech therapist. i don't know of a study specifically, but jennifer rothchild's studies are excellent. at age 15 she developed a regreesive disorder rendering her blind. she speaks a lot about her expeiences as a teenager and an adult dealing with her disability--and how her parents dealt with it.
Also Joni Erikson Tada does some writings based on her disability and dealing with folks who are disabled.
Families with special needs are often a neglected group by the church. I think it's merely that it has been a very small population for so lang that many churches are not often affected. With the numbers rising it is a huge minisry area that we all need to be involved in.
