That is wonderful! That is what a church should be.

Laura, it is encouraging to hear how your church has responded to your need. That's such a good picture of the body of Christ. And welcome to the group!

Thought I would try the site out and it's neat to be a part of something in its infantcy. I have 2 boys with Autism. One is highly functioning, and the other is 4 1/2 and not talking or potty trained. It has been an interesting journey into parenthood, and even more so with special needs. I never know if something they do (wrong) is age-appropriate or due to the autism. Our church has been a blessing to us, recently hiring an aide for our little guy to help with his transitions and allow my husband and me to worship.

Our Daughter was born in 2004 and up until she was born, we had every reason to believe that she would be another "average" or "normal" child. However, as God has taught me so many times in my life, He had other plans.
The day following her birth, two Pediatricians came to our room to discuss her diagnosis. The main part of their discussion is a blur, but I heard that she was going to be a dwarf or little person. They followed this by suggesting that we look into grief counseling. I told them words that I truly know had to be from God. I said "God does not make mistakes. While we do not understand the reasons why she was born with this, he has a purpose". Since that time, we have learned a lot from other parents with similar diagnosis. In addition, there have been a lot of television shows that have focused on this. However, I praise God for allowing us the privilege of having Anne Marie in our lives. She has made our lives so much richer and we have found that we are more compassionate to those around us. I can emphatically say today that if God gave us the chance to change Anne Marie to an average height child, I would beg to keep her just the way she is. We know that there are lots of struggles ahead with surgeries likely. The most important lesson that we have been reminded of is that God is always with us. Just like us, as parents, love to hear our children, he longs to hear from us. I can now praise God for teaching me so many lessons through a childs birth, just as he did so many years ago. God bless you all.

It is a blessing to see church leaders learning how to help families with special needs. My friend has a daughter with special needs. And i am always helping her out.

I have a sister with special needs (a year older) and very little was talked about when we were kids. It's wonderful to see parents of kids with special needs talking openly and networking together. It's also a blessing to see God moving church leaders to better prepare for families with special needs.
