In a few weeks, my eight year old daughter is going to be baptized. Her father and I are real excited and want to make the day special and memorable for her. After all, her decision to accept Christ and be baptized is the MOST important decision she will ever make. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions or ideas for ways to make the day extra special for her.

Well, do you have anyone significant to Rebecca that does embroidery? An embroidered hand towel with her name and the date of the baptism on it would be a nice touch when she first comes up out of the water.

One church I was part of when I was in seminary would have a lit candle on the ledge of the baptistry, and when the candidate left the water, they left carrying that candle, with a reminder that Jesus told them to be the light of the world. The pastor also had a bowl of salt, and he would put his fingertip in the salt and touch it to the candidate's lips, reminding them that they were also the salt of the earth. While our church doesn't have that much ritual built into the ceremony, a gift of a candle and a small crystal salt shaker given to her at lunch that day would also make it meaningful. Those are both things I wished I had remembered with Caleb and hope I will remember for Josh.
